COURSE DETAILS

The exact stage Start/Finish locations will be determined closer to the event to minimize congestion of racers and to best take advantage of each stage’s unique characteristics. This is a long and challenging course…take your time and conserve energy on the transitions.

The entire course consists of 7 timed stages throughout Lory State Park & Horsetooth Mountain Open Space with un-timed transition stages

  • 3 climbing stages – totaling approximately 5 miles & 2200′
  • 3 descending stages – totaling approximately 6.5 miles & 3000′
  • 1 ‘tweener stage in the middle – about 3.5 miles, 1300′ descent and 400’ of a couple steep punchy climbs thrown in just for fun
  • Total Time for timed stages: 1.5 – 3 hours
  • Total Time for complete course: 3 – 5 hours

NOTE: During race day, all stages will be fully closed to non-race traffic when the race is running, but transition stages (noted on maps in tan) will be open to other trail users and likely to be very busy.  Please remember to be courteous to those other trail users on the transition stages.

STAGE 1

Description: Description: Uphill stage from Timber trailhead, up Timber to finish at junction of Timber and Kimmons.
Time Estimate: 11-30 minutes

Transition to Stage 2: Ride upper Timber to Westridge to start of downhill Stage 2. CAUTION: lots of steep & rocky switchbacks; enjoy your surroundings and the company; take your time going up this section…you’re gonna feel it! (Water Station at the top).

STAGE 2

Description: Downhill stage, descend Westridge to Howard to bottom of Mill Creek. CAUTION: multiple tight switchbacks and technical rock sections with some exposure.
Time Estimate: 10-25 minutes

Transition to Stage 3: Ride South Valley through Arthur’s Rock parking lot (Aid Station) to east South Valley to Shoreline to junction with Sawmill and start of uphill Stage 3.
Time Estimate: 5-10 minutes

STAGE 3

Description: Uphill stage from junction of Shoreline and Sawmill, up Sawmill to Loggers to Herrington to Towers Rd.
Time Estimate: 16-40 minutes

Transition to Stage 4: Ride up Towers (Aid Station at Carey Springs) to junction of Towers and West Ridge (Water Station) and down West Ridge to the start of Stage 4.
Time Estimate: 20-40 minutes

STAGE 4

Description: Downhill stage from mid-West Ridge to bottom of Wathen. CAUTION: slick roots and Urethra Rock can cause some trouble.
Time Estimate: 9-25 minutes

Transition to Stage 5: Ride up Spring Creek to Herrington to Towers, up Towers to junction with Carey Springs and start of Stage 5 (Aid Station).
Time Estimate: 10-15 minutes

STAGE 5

Description: Overall-only stage from Carey Springs to Loggers to bottom of Mill Creek. CAUTION: loose rock, tight switchbacks, steep & eroded trail sections.
Time Estimate: 13-40 minutes

Transition to Stage 6: Ride South Valley to Arthur’s Rock parking lot (Aid Station) to West Valley to junction with Kimmons and the start of uphill Stage 6.
Time Estimate: 10-15 minutes

STAGE 6

Description: Uphill stage from junction of West Valley and Kimmons, up Kimmons to Timber.
Time Estimate: 9-25 minutes

Transition to Stage 7: None. Start of stage 7 is just after Stage 6 finish.

STAGE 7

Description: Downhill stage on lower Timber to the Timber Trailhead.
Time Estimate: 7-15 minutes

Transition: You’re done! Whew! Well, almost…short transition over to Soldier Canyon Picnic Shelter where cold, delicious beverages & lunch await.
